Is it poverty or just women with criminal minds?

Footage of a girl stealing  (www.google.com)
It is a shocking discovery that women of today do such things to their own children. Reported in News24.

On Sunday, 25 March the owner of a store in East Rand Mall reported that she discovered that three women came to the shop and directed a girl child to go and steal two portable PlayStation Vita video game that are worth R3000 each. While the child followed the orders, the three women distracted the staff. The description of a young girl is set to be aged between 5 and 6 years old. The shop owner continued and said that the child then returned, gave the women the consoles and they all walked calmly out of the store. Non of the staff members noticed this until one had to do a stock taking on Monday morning, then remembered that there is a child that often comes in the shop, looking exited plays and the go. The owner then took a look at the CCTV footage when she saw this shocking doing.
"if they use a child to commit theft, what will they use her for next?" asked Karin Gelde nhuys, the owner of the shop. In this case a child does not know what she is doing is right or wrong but the adults does. They are practically training a child to do all these bad things and grooming her to theft. What kind of a woman does that? are we as women not suppose to love, protect and guide them in the right direction? many questions but still no answer. We live in difficult times in such a way that if these women think that they are doing the child a favour they must think again. There are things like:
  • Drugs
  • Theft
  • Prostitution
  • Child trafficking
if a child is drawn into these things, where will it end?

21 march 1960

Sharpeville Massacre, 1960. (www.google.com)

Does this day mean anything to you as much as it does to me?. More than 50 people died on this day in a South African  township of Sharpville. People gathered at a nearby police station for a protest that was referred as a "peaceful" protest when policeman opened fire. Eye witnesses said "men, women and children fled 'like rabbits' as up to 300 officers began randomly shooting into a 5,000 strong crowd outside the municipal offices in Sharpeville". Who gave them a right to take lives? today it is called Human rights day but in 1961-1994 it was called Sharpville shooting day. On Wednesday, South Africa was celebrating the freedom fighters who died that day and honouring how brave they were during the tough times. The celebration was in Soweto and some people felt betrayed by the government's doing for him not to celebrate this day where it actually happened. People were complaining about this day being not celebrated in Sharpville and since they were blaming the President calling what happened "diminishing the role played during apartheid by people there". The president emphasised that this day does not have to be celebrated in Sharpville only, but to other places too because it is not owned by anyone.

However, below is a  time line of South Africa:

  • 21 March 1960- scores die in Sharpville shoot out
  • 31 May 1961- south Africa becomes a republic
  • 10 December 1961- apartheid attacked at Nobel ceremony
  • 25 May 1963- African state re-units against white rule
  • 12 June 1964- Nelson Mandela jailed for a life time
  • 10 May 1994-South Africa becomes a democratic country

The developments were made and we are now a free country and to show support, Public relations have to host a Non-violent Campaign in order to show people that we have moved passed the struggle but we Will not forget our fellow comrades who fought and lost their lives for our country.

E-tolling system causes havoc.

E-tolling campaing sign(www.googleimage.com).
On the 7th of march 2012, the streets of Johannesburg were filled with estimated 80 000 people who were protesting against the installation of the E-tolling system. The protest lasted for the whole day and people did not go to work, school and wherever they were suppose to go for that day. With this system, the motorists foresee expenses that are unnecessary that will be added to their monthly bills. The E-tolls will be installed on Johannesburg highways that follows:

  • N1
  • N3
  • N12
  • R21

According to the South African National Roads Agency Limited (Sanral), the system is expected to roll out next month. Even though people have protested ,it seems like they will start to function at the end of next month which is April. Cosatu is still planning to strike at the end of march since the government is going ahead with it. Vavi announced that the African National Congress Youth League, including its suspended president Julius Malema, would join the strike. Is this our government's way of improving the economy of our country?. According to the report by Mncedisi Ndlovu & Sedumedi attorneys, Dornier Consulting and Blackmagic raised concerns that no mention out was made of public transport in the SA National Road Agency Limited (Sanral) proposals. This means that the government made a decision with the people in parliament about the E-toll and they saw the benefit out of this. As a Public Relations Practitioner, speaking in a communications context, what has happened is not good for our country and it has brought bad publicity for the government. The country has lost a lot of money because of the strike that took place on the 7th earlia this month. If the strikes continue as planned, this might be the start of our country's economic downfall.

Cyclone Irina in Kwazulu-Natal over the past weekend

Durban residents were left homeless over the weekend because of storm Irina. The streets were over flooded with water and the homes washed away. That's how powerful the cyclone was. Some people were expecting something big, so after this weekend they are describing the Irina as the tropical storm even though it is still a treat policeman warned.

The M4 was closed at the La Mercy bridge and traffic was diverted to Beach Road as the lagoon level rose. The weather system was likely to remain over open water between Maputo and Richards Bay for the next 24 hours, according to the national joint operational centre. The centre is co-ordinating the response to the storm. "A combination of very rough seas, marine storm surge, as well as gale-force winds are likely to threaten" the coastline during this time, said police spokesperson Colonel Vishnu Naidoo.

In the Northern Kwazulu-Natal, four men were reportedly missing but they were later found. The counsells in the areas in Durban told everybody that was staying in the shacks or near the riversides to evacuate because of fears that their homes might collapse. The residents were not happy about this arrangement in such a way that not everybody that was told to evacuate did as told. They remained in their yards and re-built they houses to make them strong. A forecaster at the SA Weather Service Durban office, Wesani Maluleke, said that since the heavy rains started on Saturday night, some parts of the province had received more than 100mm of rain. “The storm seems to be moving more south-east during the week ahead, only affecting the coastal parts of KZN. The rain is currently widespread across the province. There has been assurance that by Monday the affected sides will experiance less rain than what they experianced on weekend.

The provincial Government was busy organising temporally housing for the families who were on the streets.  The pattern of the storm seems to be moving away from the South African coastline, but there is a 60 percent chance of rain on Friday,” Maluleke said. Will this Irina ever end or end up taking innocent lives, bread winners or community leaders? let us see what happens by the end of the week.
